TTC joins vital tree planting project in the Daintree Rainforest

The Travel Corporation (TTC) recently demonstrated its commitment to sustainability by participating in a large-scale tree planting event in the Daintree Rainforest, hosted by us at Rainforest Rescue. Ten ‘sustainability champions’ from across TTC’s various brands were selected to join this community planting day, marking a significant milestone in their ongoing efforts to protect and restore this precious ecosystem.

The Travel Corporation (TTC) selected 10 ‘sustainability champions’ from across its brands to join a community planting day hosted by its partner, Rainforest Rescue.

Each person was selected by management after detailing their passion for sustainability and their own efforts towards a more sustainable life.

The planting in Queensland’s Daintree Rainforest was the largest yet, with nearly 150 local and eco-volunteers planting 2,400 native trees to mark Rainforest Rescue’s 25th birthday.

TTC Tour Brands Head of Trade & Sales Tomas Malmberg said: “It was such a rewarding experience to work alongside my TTC colleagues at Rainforest Rescue’s annual tree planting day and see people from many walks of life come together with a common goal, to reforest the Daintree.”

“Observing more established tracts of rainforest planted by past volunteers brought home the positive impact of our collective effort for native wildlife, the local community and indeed our climate.”

TTC’s Chief Sustainability Officer of The TreadRight Foundation Shannon Guihan said: “TheTreadRight Foundation is delighted to partner with the Australian-based Rainforest Rescue.”

“As the oldest tropical rainforest in the world, the Daintree is estimated to have been evolving for as many as 185 million years.

“TreadRight’s support will enable Rainforest Rescue to further its protection and restoration of fragmented lowland rainforest while supporting local Indigenous practices and knowledge sharing.” Rainforest Rescue works hand-in-hand with traditional landowners to purchase, protect and restore parts of the Daintree Rainforest.

The TreadRight Foundation’s 2023 investment directly contributed to the purchase and protection of almost 8,000 square meters of threatened Daintree rainforest.

TTC said this will ensure “forever access” to essential habitat for rare and threatened Daintree species, and the land secures the storage of approximately 207 tonnes of carbon in the above-ground forest biomass.
