International Day of Forests Planting
Another successful Tree Planting at NightWings in celebration of International Day of Forests 2020! [pictured below]
On Saturday 21 March 2020, just before social distancing came into play which would have prevented this, Daintree Discovery Centre & Rainforest Rescue joined forces to hold a terrific tree planting day.
The planting took place at NightWings Rainforest Centre, Wonga, where Rainforests Rescue continues to restore this ex-cane production land in partnership with NightWings.
Holes were prepped the day before, ensuring that the trees were in just the right spots, and to make it easier for the tree-planters on the day. When we added our sturdy and determined bunch of volunteers at 8:30am, 12 in total, they planted 1,000 trees!
We planted a good mix of Pioneers, Early and Late Secondary, and Mature Phase Species to create a quick canopy, all according to our proven system thanks to our Scientific Advisor, Dr. Robert Kooyman.
It was a beautiful and sunny day, PLUS it rained during the night – making the conditions absolutely perfect for the newly planted trees. All those involved, especially the volunteers that contributed their time and energy to help, were absolutely amazing.
It was the perfect time, the perfect place, with the perfect people coming together to make the perfect planting!
