147 different species of plants have been identified on this Daintree property.

Lot 19 adjoins the Daintree National Park/World Heritage Area and it is in close proximity to five properties owned by Rainforest Rescue that form the Milky Pine Wildlife Refuge. It has excellent connectivity, with continuous forest on the back of the property leading into the Alexandra Range. The front of the property has connectivity to a privately managed nature reserve.

The forest’s structural integrity scores 5/5 for its level of intact canopy – with only a small amount of damage from cyclones and other storms in one area. Large fan palms (Licuala ramsayi), Hope’s cycad (Lepidozamia hopei), and black palms (Normanbya normanbyi) are scattered across the block with a large stand of fan palms on the front of the property.

The threat of development is extremely high. Development approval has been granted and council-approved house plans are included with the property sale.

LEFT: The Daintree satin ash (Syzygium monospermum) is found in a limited range between Cape Tribulation and Mossman including in the rainforest of Lot 19.

When flowering, the trunk is covered in large white flowers (cauliflory). The fruits grow to 40mm long and make a particularly spectacular sight.

Instead of having fruits and flowers in the canopy, this species presents its bounty on the tree trunks, providing nectar and fruit for many insects, animals (eg bats), and bird species that feed below the canopy.
