Lot 90, Rosewood Road, Cow Bay
Lot 90 Rosewood Road (RP 738146) is a 1.04 hectare protected by Rainforest Rescue in July 2001.
It was the first property to be declared a Nature Refuge under the Qld Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is one of eight properties that form the Baralba Corridor Nature Refuge.
The Refuge was named by local Aboriginal people, the kuki yalanji, with the word 'Baralba' meaning 'wildlife track'. The corridor provides a vital link between two isolated areas of the Daintree National Park/World Heritage Area.
The property is located north of the Alexandra Range in the Cow Bay precinct.
Lot 90 Rosewood Road is classified as 'essential habitat' for the endangered southern cassowary (Casuarius casuarius johnsonii) under the Qld Vegetation Management Act 1999. Under the Qld Government's Regional Ecosystem Mapping Scheme vegetation on the property is classified as being of 'of concern' and 'endangered' biodiversity status.
