Time is short and it’s vital to act quickly to Protect
The Lowland Daintree Rainforest lies between the Wet Tropics of Queensland and Great Barrier Reef
UNESCO World Heritage Areas and has a vital role in connecting these two
recent bleaching of significant areas of the Great Barrier Reef is a striking
reminder of the impact of human activity on our ecosystems. Drastic action
needs to be taken to help build resilience against these threats and the
potentially catastrophic long-term impacts of climate change. Creating
permanent rainforest corridors, connecting protected landscapes, gives the
unique flora and fauna of the Daintree a better chance of survival and protects
river catchments flowing onto the Great Barrier Reef.
Recently, Rainforest Rescue identified three priority properties
under threat. With your support, we managed to rescue one of these, but, sadly,
a second property was sold for development as we campaigned for its protection.
The third property is for sale on the open market, but in danger of being lost.
You can help secure this land and protect the rainforest forever.
With a lineage
of over 70 million years the Daintree is critically important as an
‘engine-room’ of evolution. It is the largest area of the wet lowland tropical
rainforest remaining in Australia, protecting both the ecological and
evolutionary processes that result in diversification, adaptation and survival.
At this time of unprecedented change, we have to act now to ensure that this
unique and special habitat survives for future generations.
Your important gift today can help stop the
destruction of our extraordinary rainforests.
